1973 Citroen SM

Upgrades by Andrew Brodie Engineering

Finished in Gris Neptune over black leather.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970, the Citroën SM was produced from 1970 to 1975 and is one of the most technically ambitious cars in Citroën’s history.

Designed by Robert Opron, its appearance was dramatically different from most contemporary cars. It was conceived as a high-speed luxury grand tourer, combining Citroën’s advanced chassis technology with a Maserati engine. The engineering was extraordinary for the early 1970s. The hydropneumatic suspension gave it the famous smooth Citroën ride while maintaining constant ride height. Its DIRAVI steering required very little effort and automatically returned toward centre. It also had a distinctive nose containing six headlights, with the inner lamps steering with the front wheels. The body was exceptionally aerodynamic with futuristic proportions.

This particular Citroën SM was imported into the UK from Paris in 2017. We understand that it was originally supplied new in Vert Argento, a metallic green, before being refinished in the highly complementary shade of Gris Neptune, from Citroën’s 1980s colour palette.

The deep metallic green of Gris Neptune suits the SM exceptionally well, complementing its distinctive, aerodynamic lines and giving the car a particularly elegant presence.

Since arriving in the UK, the SM has been regularly serviced by Andrew Brodie Engineering of London, highly regarded specialists in Citroën & Maserati cars. During this period, the car has benefited from more than routine maintenance, receiving a number of the specialist-recommended upgrades designed to improve reliability, usability and long-term ownership.

A very elegant SM benefiting from knowledgeable specialist care and considered mechanical improvements.
