1966 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 3 Flying Spur
38,900 miles
Featuring aluminium coachwork by HJ Mulliner introduced with the Bentley Continental in 1957, only becoming available as a Rolls Royce model after the introduction of the Silver Cloud 3 in 1962. The cost of the aluminium bodied Flying Spur was significantly higher than the standard Silver Cloud. At approximately £9,000 it was actually circa £3,500 more expensive. This was an eye watering amount in 1966 given that the Silver Cloud was already a very expensive car. Not surprisingly this was a very rare model, with records indicating that only 35 RHD examples of the Rolls Royce model were produced.
This is a known example in Rolls Royce and Bentley circles and was invited to be displayed at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2004 as part of the Rolls Royce Centenary display. At this point the car was owned by a Rolls Royce specialist, some comments from his entry form (included in history file) are quoted below, Car supplied by P&A Wood in June of this year (2004) has had very little restoration. Maintained by Rolls Royce at Crewe until 1987.
Records on file dating back to 1967 suggest that the displayed low mileage of 38,900 is indeed correct. A highly original example which still presents beautifully today.
